After the outer sheath of the cable is damaged, it should be repaired, especially in the environment where it is directly buried or prone to damp or water ingress. The specific repair plan should be based on the different operating environment and choose different repair methods.
1. Bonding method
Use polyvinyl chloride adhesive tape or rubber self-adhesive tape to wrap around 3 to 5 layers on the damaged part to restore the airtightness of the outer sheath of the cable.
It needs to be pointed out that: PVC tape will lose its viscosity quickly under the action of ultraviolet rays, temperature, humidity, etc., so it is only suitable for short-term repair. The self-adhesive rubber belt has low mechanical strength, poor light resistance and aging performance, and is easy to crack. Therefore, it is necessary to bind and protect the outside of the wrapping layer when repairing it.
2. Heat shrink
The heat shrink method is to use a heat shrink wrap tape or a heat shrink wrap sheet (the outer sheath of the communication cable connector) to repair or reinforce the damaged part.
When using heat-shrinkable materials to repair the damage of the outer sheath, you should choose the one coated with hot melt on the inner side, otherwise, sealant should be applied (wrapped) on the repaired part. When heated to a certain temperature, the heat-shrinkable material shrinks, and at the same time The hot melt or sealant melts to bond it with the outer sheath of the cable as a whole to form a good sealed sheath.
3. Welding method
The plastic sheath of the power cable can also be repaired by welding. The welding method has the advantages of economy, reliability, and beauty, and should be promoted. The specific welding process is as follows:
(1) Clean the welding part and the surface of the nearby cable sheath.
(2) Use a sharp blade to trim both sides of the welding part into bevels to increase the welding strength.
(3) Large leaks should be made of materials of the same material and thickness, cut into a shape similar to the leaks, and trim the edges into bevels for use.
(4) Take the plastic of the same material and cut it into thin strips for use.
(5) Use a plastic welding gun to heat the plastic strip to a molten state and apply it evenly on the pre-repaired inclined surface of the welding part.
(6) Smooth the surface after cooling.
